fide Test
Questions & Answers

Find answers to common questions about the fide test at Italk Sprachschule.

The fide test is a Swiss language test that was developed on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and is recognized in Switzerland for immigration and citizenship procedures.

The fide test consists of an oral part (“speaking” and “understanding”) and a written part (“reading and writing”).

Both parts (oral and written) can be taken in two different level combinations (A1-A2 or A2-B1). Note that B1 is the maximum level you can achieve with the fide test. If you need a higher level, you can take a telc exam.

This is not necessary. The levels are determined directly during the test.

Based on your performance during the first task, the examiners will suggest you a specific level combination (A1-A2 or A2-B1). If you do not agree, you can also opt for the other combination and be tested in this one.

We cannot tell you which level you have to take. Every situation is different, and you always need to check with the institution, e.g. with the Immigration Office, what level they require.
