Starting a new language from zero feels like a big step, but the first level is designed for exactly that. If you have never studied German, you begin at A1, where you learn to introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions, and handle everyday needs. In Zürich you can do this in a small group, in person or online, at a pace that suits you.
Where beginners start
Complete beginners start at A1, the first level. From there, you build step by step through the sublevels until you can hold everyday conversations. If you have picked up some German already, we check your level with a short test first and place you in the right group.
How the classes work
Classes are taught in small groups, usually up to 12 people, which keeps the atmosphere personal and gives you room to speak. You can attend in person at Löwenstrasse 61, two minutes from Zürich main station, or online, and you can mix the two. If you miss a lesson, you receive a video recording of it, so you can catch up in your own time.
Try before you enrol
You can try a German lesson free of charge before you sign up. It is a simple way to meet a teacher, see how the classes run, and decide if the pace is right for you.
