What is the SVEB Certificate for Course Instructors (SVEB 1)?

The SVEB Certificate for Course Instructors (Module 1) – also known as SVEB 1 – is the official entry point into adult education in Switzerland. It qualifies you to independently conduct learning events for adults in educational institutions, companies, or social service organizations.

With the SVEB 1 Certificate:

  • you will receive a qualification recognized throughout Switzerland and internationally
  • you will fulfill a key requirement for working as a trainer
  • you will lay the foundation for further training (e.g., the Swiss Federal Certificate for Trainers)


The course is based on the SVEB (Swiss Federation for Adult Learning) framework curriculum and is led by experienced professionals. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate that will advance your career.

SVEB 1 training

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

After completing the SVEB 1 training, you will possess sound methodological and didactic skills as well as social competencies. You will be able to prepare, conduct, and evaluate learning events for adults in your field, using predefined concepts, curricula, and teaching materials.

You can then apply the acquired skills and competencies in your work at various educational institutions. The SVEB Certificate for Course Leaders comprises 14 course days and is a partial qualification towards the Swiss Federal Certificate for Trainers.

  • Course instructors at continuing education institutes, vocational schools, and/or in-company training programs
  • Trainers with practical experience in teaching courses to adults

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

SVEB 1 courses are held with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 14 participants.

COMPLETION / CERTIFICATION

You will receive a module certificate upon successful completion of the following coursework:

255 hours of learning time, including:

  • 90 hours of net classroom time
  • 165 hours of self-study
  • Successful completion of a competency assessment (practical demonstration and documented reflection on the learning process)
  • 80% attendance

You will receive the SVEB certificate if you also provide proof of at least 150 hours of practical experience as a course instructor in at least two years of part-time professional practice. This practical experience can be acquired before, during, or after the course.

The total learning time is therefore 405 hours (255 hours for the course + 150 hours of practical experience). The course is equivalent to 13.5 ECTS credits (ECTS = European Credit Transfer System).

Dates for the SVEB course in Zurich

The course lasts four months. Classes are held on Fridays or Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
